Ministry of Justice organized the first meeting of the Anti-Corruption Working

The Ministry of Justice organized today the first meeting of the Anti-Corruption Working Group, composed of representatives of legal institutions from the Republic of Moldova and development partners. During the meeting, the priorities and needs for justice reform and the fight against corruption were presented, as well as the possibilities for donors to support our country in this regard.

Present at the event, the Minister of Justice, Sergiu Litvinenco, appreciated the openness of the international community and the desire of the legal institutions from the Republic of Moldova to get involved in reforming the justice system and in the fight against corruption - the priority number one for us. “I mention that all the things we set out to do must be done as accurately and on time as possible. And here, I am referring to the “pre-vetting” reform, which is in progress and as a result of which the self-governing bodies of judges and prosecutors will constitute of honest and fair people, the reform of the Supreme Court of Justice, the reform of “vetting” - extraordinary external evaluation of all judges and prosecutors “, said Sergiu Litvinenco.

At the same time, the Minister of Justice stressed that the Republic of Moldova needs support to discover the thefts that have taken place so far and to bring home the money stolen from our citizens. “We need better cooperation with law enforcement agencies from other states, to facilitate the extradition of those who have fled the justice abroad, we need better cooperation on the exchange of information between states, identification and recovery of assets and goods hidden abroad by thieves and corrupt persons. We are going to systematize all the priorities and needs that we have at the moment, so that we have more clarity where and what kind of support we need from the donors”, mentioned Minister Litvinenco.

In the end, the Minister of Justice thanked the development partners, who understood the difficulty of the Republic of Moldova and support the reform of the justice and the fight against corruption, an even greater goal in the conditions we seek integration into the European Union. In particular, Sergiu Litvinenco appreciated the support provided by Romania and the United Kingdom, which are committed to coordinating the work of this Working Group and facilitating communication between development partners and legal institutions in our country and in other countries.

The Anti-Corruption Working Group was created within the donors’ conference in Berlin, in early April.
