July 29, 2026, Chisinau – The Republic of Moldova will accede to the Convention on the Recognition and Enforcement of Foreign Judgments in Civil or Commercial Matters, adopted in The Hague on July 2, 2019. Draft law developed by the Ministry of Justice, which will strengthen international judicial cooperation and facilitate the protection of the rights of citizens and the business environment in cross-border relations, was voted on in the first reading by Parliament.
The 2019 Hague Convention establishes a common framework for contracting states, under which judgments given in one state can be recognised and enforced in other states.The Convention specifies the conditions for the recognition and enforcement of judgments in civil and commercial matters, as well as the strictly prescribed cases in which their recognition or enforcement may be refused.
Accession to the Convention will bring benefits to both citizens and businesses.Individuals and legal entities will have fast and predictable procedures for the recognition and enforcement of court decisions in other contracting states.At the same time, decisions issued by courts in the Republic of Moldova will be recognized and enforced more efficiently in those countries, which will increase the legal protection of citizens and investors.
Accession to the Convention will strengthen international judicial cooperation, bring the Republic of Moldova closer to current international standards in the field, and contribute to increasing legal certainty and achieving the commitments assumed in the process of accession to the European Union.
