INP launched the "Drink & Drive" program, mandatory for reacquiring a driving license

The National Probation Inspectorate (INP), an authority subordinate to the Ministry of Justice, has started implementing the "Drink & Drive" probation program for the first group of beneficiaries in Chisinau, consisting of 6 people.

The provisions of Law No. 138 of 19.07.2018, which entered into force on 14.12.2018, stipulate as a sanction for persons who drive a vehicle while intoxicated - the cancellation/deprivation of the right to drive means of transport with the withdrawal of the driving license. At the same time, the legislative amendments provide that the canceled driving right can be regained under certain conditions, and one of these is attending a mandatory anti-alcohol and anti-drug probation program, with the beneficiary bearing the expenses of completing the probation program.

"Drink & Drive" is a specific probation program for the rehabilitation of persons convicted of crimes committed regarding driving under the influence of alcoholic beverages and aims to prevent recidivism. The cost of participation in the program for a beneficiary is 4 thousand lei.The program lasts about 3 months, structured into 12 individual and group sessions.During the sessions, program participants will be trained in various activities, including assistance at the Center for Forensic Medicine and in hospitals. The first sessions began at the Probation Offices in the municipalities of Chisinau and Ungheni.
