The Secretary of State of the Ministry of Justice, Eduard Serbenco, met today with the Council of Europe delegation, chaired by the Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the Council of Europe (CoE) for Migration and Refugees, Leyla Kayacik, between June 13-15, on a working visit to the Republic of Moldova.
During the talks, officials addressed issues related to the multidimensional management of the flow of refugees from Ukraine to the Republic of Moldova following the situation of armed conflict in the neighbouring country. In this context, the Secretary of State Eduard Serbenco informed European officials about the practices and actions taken by the Chisinau authorities in managing the flow of Ukrainian refugees and assured that these processes are carried out in accordance with international standards.
In turn, the Special Representative of the CoE Secretary-General for Migration and Refugees, Leyla Kayacik, said that the Republic of Moldova is an important member of the Council of Europe, which is given the necessary support to provide the help needed by Ukrainian refugees. Leyla Kayacik spoke about the practical ways in which the CoE can support the Republic of Moldova in managing the flow of Ukrainian refugees, focusing on protection against violence, exploitation and trafficking in human beings of the most vulnerable categories of people: women, unaccompanied and separated children, elderly people as well.
At the working meeting, the CoE Secretary-General's Special Representative for Migration and Refugees was accompanied by Carolina Lasén Diaz, Legal Adviser (Special Representative of the Secretary-General (SRSG)); Päivi Suhonen, Communications Officer (SRSG); Ia Dadunashvili, GRETA expert; Janeta Hanganu, ECtHR lawyer and William Massolin, head of the CoE Office in Chisinau.
