Message of Mr. Sergiu Litvinenco delivered during the Moldova-Romania joint meeting of the Legal and Foreign Policy Committees of the Parliaments

The Minister of Justice, Mr. Sergiu Litvinenco, came with a message in the framework of the joint meeting of the Legal and Foreign Policy Committees of the Parliaments of the Republic of Moldova and Romania. The Minister mentioned that such events are extremely important, especially due to our country’s aspirations on its path for European Union integration. Romania’s experience in this regard is valuable to us and we rely on its support at every stage.

“The justice reform and the fight against corruption are number one priorities of the Republic of Moldova, of the current Government, of the Ministry of Justice and of our citizens, who expressed their votes in July 2021 in favor of a state based on the rule of law. People expect functional institutions, an authentic fight against corruption, their fundamental rights and freedoms to be respected”, underlined Mr. Sergiu Litvinenco.

Moreover, the minister made a brief presentation of the ongoing and upcoming reforms. Especially, he referred to the ,,pre-vetting”- verifying exercise of the integrity of candidates for membership in the Superior Council of Magistracy and Superior Council of Prosecutors, which will be followed by ,,vetting’’- extraordinary external evaluation of all judges and prosecutors, reform of the Supreme Court of Justice, reorganization of anti-corruption institutions: Anticorruption Prosecutor's Office, National Anticorruption Center.  “These are ambitious goals, whose achievement will ensure a fair, equitable and integral justice system, which will defend the interests of the citizens and the state of the Republic of Moldova. It’s not easy to reform entirely a totally corrupt system, but we are sure we will succeed, because we have the support of our development partners, including Romania”, mentioned the Minister of Justice.

Finally, Mr. Sergiu Litvinenco expressed once again his gratitude to Romania, for the friendship established between our countries, for the endless and unconditionally support offered to the Republic of Moldova and our citizens.
