The Minister of Justice, Mr Sergiu Litvinenco held productive discussion this morning with the representatives of the development partners interested in providing support to the Republic of Moldova in the implementation of the pre-vetting mechanism. These are the EU Delegation to the Republic of Moldova, the European Commission, the World Bank, the United States Agency for International Development, the Embassies of the United States of America and the Netherlands to the Republic of Moldova.
"This discussion was necessary, given that the law will soon enter into force, and we have no time to waste as we must be prepared to undertake immediate actions. As a matter of priority, we discussed the establishment and operation of the Secretariat of the Evaluation Commission, the selection procedure of the three members of the Commission to be delegated by the development partners, but also the importance to promote the law in order to ensure the integrity of the judges and prosecutors within pre-vetting process and encourage them to apply for membership in the SCM, SCP and their Colleges” said the Minister of Justice.
Mr Sergiu Litvinenco reiterated in discussions with the development partners the MoJ’s interest in the pre-vetting mechanism to be implemented correctly, taking into account the national conjuncture. "We want the initiated systemic reform to achieve its ultimate goal - to have a SCM and a SCP with fair, honest people who will want to promote integrity in the justice system. These self-governing bodies will be the vehicles to start cleaning up the justice system of corrupt judges and prosecutors, those with integrity problems", underlined Mr Sergiu Litvinenco.
In turn, development partners have assured that they will continue to help us implement pre-vetting mechanism, both with professional experts and financial support. The Minister of Justice appreciated their openness and support. "Our common interest is not to compromise this cleansing process and to have a justice system that will work in the interests of the citizens of this country" reiterated Mr Sergiu Litvinenco.
