June 3, 2026, Chisinau – The Ministry of Justice organized a working meeting with representatives of the authorities and civil society, focused on some aspects of Draft law amending certain normative acts (strengthening mechanisms to combat corruption, financial crime and organized crime).
Representatives of the General Prosecutor's Office, the Prosecutor's Office for Combating Organized Crime and Special Cases, the Ombudsman's Office, as well as civil society organizations were invited to the meeting: Promo-LEX, Amnesty International Moldova, the Legal Resources Center of Moldova, Act for Involvement, the Center for Policies and Reforms, the Center for the Rehabilitation of Torture Victims "Memoria", the Institute for Human Rights of Moldova, the Center for Partnership for Development, the GENDERDOC-M Information Center, the Positive Initiative and the Institute for European Policies and Reforms.
Taking into account the specifics of what was presented by the parties, the Ministry of Justice proposed, and the authorities and civil society representatives agreed, to continue examining the subject in a separate working group, outside the aforementioned draft law.The proposals formulated will be analyzed in detail, maintaining the lines of consensus identified during the discussions and pursuing the same objectives of strengthening the criminal prosecution system, increasing the efficiency of investigations and combating torture.These objectives constitute a common interest of the Ministry of Justice, the authorities and civil society.
The draft law is to be examined in Parliament in the second reading.Its provisions aim to establish an integrated mechanism for the prevention, investigation and examination of complex criminal cases, with the aim of eliminating the fragmentation of powers and strengthening the coherence of the justice system.It meets the benchmarks for strengthening the rule of law and making the mechanisms for combating corruption, organized crime, financial fraud, as well as other complex and special crimes more efficient.
